Motorola Solutions Inc.
Motorola Solutions is a global company that provides communication and mission-critical technologies, focusing on military and enterprise security. It offers a range of products and services, including two-way radios, body cameras, software for emergency services, and security solutions. Its surveillance products are used in US prisons, along borders, and by US police departments and Immigration agencies. Its equipment is installed in illegal Israeli settlements and along the separation wall in the occupied West Bank and is used by the Israeli military, police, and prison service. Motorola and all its subsidiaries and brands are a direct target for boycotts.
Isreal and Apartheid
Motorola Solutions is listed in the UN Database of businesses profiting from illegal Israeli settlements in particular "the supply of surveillance and identification equipment for settlements, the separation walls and checkpoints directly linked with settlements". This database, published in February 2020, resulted from an independent investigation into how these settlements violate Palestinian rights in occupied territories, including East Jerusalem, and their effects on the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of the Palestinian people.
By continuing to operate in occupied Palestinian territories, Motorola Solutions is legitimizing illegal occupation and profiting from human rights violations, including the displacement and exploitation of Palestinian resources. They have undermined peace efforts, ignoring the UN report for years, choosing profits over principles, Contributing to discrimination, supporting a system of inequality, and eroding Palestinian rights. Their operations contribute to the systematic denial of Palestinian civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.
The Killing Machine Mobile
Motorola Solutions is the developer and supplier of the Israeli military's smartphone devices (Lex M20) which were first introduced in 2016. These devices provide an encrypted communication system and are designed to integrate with other military systems via 4G infrastructure, also supplied by Motorola. In the 1990s, Motorola developed the IDF's first military wireless telephony system, known as "Mountain Rose." This system was specifically designed for mobile use in field conditions and was deployed with Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank.
Maintaining Apartheid
Motorola Solutions has been documented multiple times developing systems to control, surveil, and restrict the movements of Palestinians in the Occupied Territories, particularly around Israeli military checkpoints, illegal settlements, and the separation walls. The company has also been involved in building and maintaining Israeli infrastructure on occupied Palestinian land. Additionally, it provides support to Israeli police and prisons, including the Nachshon Unit, which is responsible for handling Palestinian political prisoners.
