Wix
Wix.com Ltd. is an Israeli software company, publicly listed in the US, that provides cloud-based web development services. Wix's co-founder Avishai Abrahami was part of Unit 8200 in the Israeli military. Wix.com and all its subsidiaries, like Deviant Art, are a direct target for boycotts.
Censoring & Propaganda
Since October 7th, Wix has reportedly pushed its employees to produce and spread propaganda supporting the Israeli narrative and dehumanizing Palestinians. The company has also censored any employee who expressed political opinions that are pro-Palestinian or simply anti-genocide.
Propaganda
After October 7th, according to leaked messages obtained by The Irish Times, Wix reportedly communicated with and encouraged its employees to create content supporting "Israel's narrative". One of the managers at Wix allegedly encouraged employees through internal Slack messages to "show Westernity" in social media posts, stating, "unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans or Americans". The message emphasized that it is "very important to emphasize this in texts and images so that they [Europeans and Americans] feel close to us".
Wix reportedly invited employees through the Slack channel to join a company initiative to create videos and creative campaigns "to support Israel's narrative". The aim was to "make an impact on global perception" of the Hamas attacks and counter "the fake narrative". Employees were advised to avoid focusing on numbers, as "the number of deaths and bombings in Gaza will be significantly higher". Instead, they were told to counter "difficult pictures" of injured and killed civilians in Gaza by sharing "difficult personal stories from the terrible [Hamas] massacre", with the rationale that "It creates a feeling that it is happening at the same time".
Propaganda Projects
According to the leaked messages, another Wix employee reportedly sought assistance on a project aimed at creating "a dynamic database on a website of all the companies that have come out against Israel".
According to the Internet Archive, the domain hamas.com was parked for years since 1999 until it eventually changed ownership to Wix. Wix is still the current owner of the domain hamas.com.
Shortly after it was registered by Wix, around November 17th, a propaganda website created by Israeli nationals to promote the Israeli narrative was launched on the domain. This website was subsequently shared and utilized by the Israeli Defense Ministry in English on X (formerly Twitter).
The website contains graphic images and videos allegedly from the attacks that occurred on October 7th and attributes all of them to Hamas. The site presents itself from the perspective of "Hamas Islamic Jihad" and uses victims of the October 7th attacks as tools for pro-Israeli propaganda and to further Islamophobia.
A section of the website displays purported "testimonials" from Hamas fighters regarding the operation they allegedly conducted.
Another section on the same website displays a media gallery of bodies from the October 7th attacks, presenting it as if Hamas is celebrating the killing of civilians and labeling it as "Jihad".
Censoring
During the same time Wix admitted to illegally dismissing an employee for voicing her opinion and sharing a social media post condemning the actions of the Israeli military in Gaza.
Unit 8200
Unit 8200 is a secretive cybersecurity and intelligence unit within the Israeli Occupational Forces. Avishai Abrahami, CEO of Wix.com, served in this unit for two years. In an interview with Forbes, he recounts operations where he infiltrated and stole information from what he described as "hostile" nations.
Upon completing their mandatory service, Unit 8200 veterans, like all IDF soldiers, are required to serve in the reserves. This reserve duty extends until their early 40s, typically involving a commitment of up to three weeks per year. This ongoing service means that former members, like Avishai Abrahami, are still connected to and potentially contributing to and supporting the ongoing Israeli military operations.
This unit has been involved in many atrocities committed by the Israeli Occupational Forces. This includes the recent terrorist attack on Lebanese civilians with exploding communication equipment or using AI to mark random civilians as "targets" to be bombed in Gaza.
